The purpose of the program is for students to effectively utilize and be aware of the SDSU resources which supports their academic advising/counseling during TBP. At the conclusion of the program students should be able to identify graduation requirements for their major, effectively identify and use library support services, demonstrate financial literacy in areas of financial aid and scholarship searches as well as demonstrate the value of peer relations to support their university transition.

Why Should I Attend

The transition from community college to SDSU can be overwhelming. Students who participate in the EOP Transfer Bridge Program are able to get head start from other incoming transfer students. The program provides students with a better understanding of EOP, university requirements, resources and networking opportunities - so that students know exactly what is expected of them as they establish contacts early on in their university experience. Listed below are some of the benefits in participating in the program:

Transfer Bridge 2020

The Transfer Bridge Program was definitely super helpful with creating connections with fellow students. Also, TBP gave us a better insight in the resources that EOP offers. Although it was virtual we were able to connect with one another and it made the experience a lot more meaningful. Our assigned mentor provided useful information to make our transition to the University a lot smoother. TBP made our adjustment to virtual very straightforward and fun!

Transfer Bridge 2020

Transfer Bridge was the best experience I could have had in making the transition from Community College to a 4 year University. I got the opportunity to meet the EOP staff, who were nothing but loving and helpful, and connect with students who were in the same situation I was. Transfer Bridge really helped me feel ready to take on the next 2 years and allowed me to see the resources that are made available through EOP.

Transfer Bridge 2020

When I first applied to SDSU, I felt unsure about how accepted I would feel, but transfer bridge made it all better and I had an amazing experience. Transfer bridge made me feel like I belonged there. An experience that stood out to me was learning about imposture syndrome. I came to learn that most of the transfer students had it, along with myself. Transfer bridge also prepared me for the transition and what was expected from me. Many of the speakers taught us how to manage our time, work in groups, and how to introduce ourselves to the professors,
deans, and other staff. Not only did transfer bridge help me feel like I belonged there, but they also encouraged us to join clubs like the SOAR mentor group. Joining the SOAR mentor group has been one of the most helpful resources, with my mentor Cristina Picazo. She has been doing an amazing job with checking in on us weekly, making sure we are healthy not only physically but also mentally.

Transfer Bridge 2020

With SDSU transitioning to online learning, EOP Transfer Bridge felt like my only lifeline to find a sense of community at my new school. Having a chance to speak directly with EOP advisors was incredibly relieving, as I had many questions which went unanswered during the regular Student Orientation. Most importantly, I was able to connect with a SOAR mentor who helped me through my toughest times last semester. I would encourge every EOP transfer student to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. EOP Transfer Bridge is the perfect head start for a successful college experience.

Transfer Bridge 2020

Transitioning from a community college to a CSU college brought various doubts. I asked myself how I will be able to recreate my student resource hack system back again? While I knew the basic ins and outs of college, having to face a bigger campus brought the new student emotions back. Which brought me to ask, where can I seek resources and build a community within an enormous campus? Luckily I signed up for the SDSU Transfer Bridge Program, and I must say it was the best decision I made. I am not saying this because I am trying to sell SDSU, but saying that the Transfer Bridge Program experiences will be one of the best ones as an incoming transfer student. It helped me get rid of that emotion of feeling out of place in a relatively new campus. Even though the year I transferred out was not the way I expected due to COVID, the Transfer Bridge program did a fantastic job by giving a piece of a home through your computer screen. The program's purpose is to help us feel comfortable seeking help and be aware of the resources SDSU has to offer not only academically but also student organizations! What helped me most is getting help from an academic advisor/counselor to understand how to read my degree evaluation and understand graduation requirements for my major, which I am thankful for. Yet out of all the good things this program helped me with, the most memorable parts are the guest speakers who talked about various conflicts many first-generation or transfer students face when entering a bigger campus. It helped me feel less lonely knowing that others go through similar situations. Through this program, I learned that there is s always a community out there at SDSU where I can find a great support system. Thanks to the Transfer Bridge program, I felt prepared to tackle my first semester at San Diego State, so if you can do apply!
