The EOP BEST Summer Bridge Program is an intensive 5-week academic preparation program designed to enhance student educational achievement, timely progress towards degree and successful transition to the university. This is achieved by working collaboratively with faculty and staff in providing students with the fundamental academic skills, social networks, and personal development essential to their success at SDSU.

2005

Each summer, a select group of new EOP freshmen students are given an opportunity to get a head start on their college education and experience life at SDSU. Students participate in five weeks of intensive academic studies allowing students to earn up to six academic units. Students also enhance writing, math, and study skills focused toward meeting SDSU’s writing and math competency requirements.

All students familiarize themselves with the university and explore the city of San Diego. This is a great way to begin at SDSU. You will meet students like yourself from throughout California, develop essential educational skills, and participate in social and recreational activities. With your enthusiasm and a five-week commitment, you can become one of EOP’s BEST students at SDSU.

EOP’s BEST Summer Bridge Program at San Diego State University is regarded as one of the nation’s finest summer transitional programs. BEST students generally have higher grade-point averages and lower academic probation rates than other SDSU students. BEST alumni have gone on to graduate school or are successfully employed as professionals in a range of fields.

Summer Bridge  Cohort 2020

Summer Bridge was such a great experience for me and I would definitely recommend those that have the opportunity to, to do it. It was nice to experience college before college really started. And I also was blessed with an amazing mentor that really put me out there and helped me get to know my community.

Summer Bridge  Cohort 2020

Summer Bridge was a great experience. I honestly was very hesitant to join at first, I didn't want to miss out on summer and I thought it was going to be hard to maintain with work but it was a great choice I followed through with. My TFM class was so much fun and the requirement of having the cameras on via zoom made it much easier to make friends and interact with others in the class. There were also many other activities planned by the mentors that were so much fun, my personal favorite was movie night. I did need a little encouragement to attend these activities that took place later on in the day but it was always worth it and so much fun. Overall I had an amazing time in the summer bridge program, all the staff were really nice and helpful and the tutors and mentors were always very easy to contact and talk to. I highly recommend joinning! :)

Summer Bridge  Cohort 2017

Summer bridge gave me the chance to experience college courses before my first semester of college. Also, introduce me to amazing people that I got to cherish fun and memorable moments with.

From the academic seminars to meetings with my mentor, I felt prepared, supported, and welcomed as an EOP student into my first semester at SDSU. This enriching experience has had a lasting impact on my success as a student that I will forever be grateful for.

Summer Bridge  Mentor 2020

I am a third-year Interdisciplinary Studies and minor in Leadership. I am a QUEER person of color and my pronouns are He/They. I had the opportunity to attend the EOP BEST SummerBridge program as a freshmen. One of the best experience I had because I learned how to navigate the institution and building a strong foundation of communities. As of summer 2020, I had the privilege to give back by being a SummerBridge mentor, helping incoming freshmen navigate the university in a virtual setting and educating folxs on Intersectionality!
